The mass

This is where the Eucharistic Congress is being held

This morning we had a wonderful time fellowshipping with the believers in Shankill at Glen Maris house. Immediatly after, eighteen of us (including the five of us team members) headed off to the 50th International Eucaristic Congress held at The Royal Dublin Society (RDS)  in Ballsbridge, Co. Dublin. There we handed out approxamately 6-8 thousand copies of “The Mass : from Mystery to Meaning.” There group divided into teams of two and covered almost all the entrances. Many people were happy to accept the liturature, but some were not at all pleased we were there and warned others that the booklets were not “Catholic” and therefore could not be trusted! We had some interesting conversations with people who (like all good Catholics) insisted we could not be sure of our salvation and all had to go to purgatory – insisting it was true and going so far as to say (when showed from the Bible it wasn’t true) to say we should go with the authority of the Catholic Church over the Holy Bible. One man who came up to Ben and Kassi at the end was quite adamant about these things and didn’t think we should be allowed to pass out “Heretical” literature – he very reluctantly left the conversation after one of the men from the assembly joined the conversation and he was about to miss the Mass. Overall there was a good response and the church plans on going back next week to hand out more books.

We then headed back to Glen Maris for a delicious lunch which Penny (Defouw - missionary) had prepared for us and enjoyed ice cream and cake in honor of Frank Carolan’s Birthday! We had a few miniutes to relax, then we headed off to Frank’s house to watch the European Championship and cheer for Ireland (Come on You Boys in Green!!). It was raining quite heavily in Poland where the match was being  held and Frank remarked that the Irish players must feel right at home.

Please pray for all those who received the booklets , that they would read them with an open mind and consider what they have learned. Pray for us as we head out again tomorrow as well as those who are planning on joining us in the morning.
Linda Jerry and I want you to know we are praying for you all.  And trust the Lord will richly bless the remainder of the time you are in Ireland...  We pray the dogs won't eat you Ben and Bethany :)    Again just want to say we enjoyed the great Craic with you all and do look to the Lord to use all the seed sown for His Glory.     in Him Tim

Ghana Africa 2012
Well the team is now here in Ghana, and it was certainly an adventure for everyone to travel to Ghana. The concerns started late on Thursday evening when we learned the Hoods was flight cancelled. Leaving Esther hood stranded at the Kelowna airport in Canada wondering what to do next. After Tim and myself prayed and worked with the airline company, we were fortunate to make alternate arrangements that managed to get Esther to London where she was to meet up with the Hoods, some of the other team members coming in from Florida. However Tim, Linda and Jerry were stuck in Dublin Ireland due to their flight being delayed/cancelled. We were beginning to wonder if the Devil was already on the attack seeking to destroy our gospel efforts. But alas we prevailed through the gracious hand of our God. Tim and Linda did manage to rearrange their flights so that they could arrive early Saturday morning in Ghana, along with Caleb, who also had missed his connecting flight on Friday. They all arrived in Accra looking a little weathered from the mishaps and delays. However, the Hood's bags unfortunately remained in London, containing not only their personal items, but also puppets and other supplies. Please pray that they are returned soon. No one had much sleep but we were sure glad to see their faces coming through the gates at the Accra airport.

The team all assembled, with our bus driver Adjei at the helm, and Daniel Adjei, a young church member, in the co-pilots seat. Daniel wanted to join us to meet the team and welcome them to Ghana, he proved to be a great help with all the heavy bags, and making everyone feel comfortable and welcome. Those who arrived on Friday night stayed at the Ghana Baptist Mission Guest house in Accra, and were able to get rested and refreshed before our long and bumpy bus ride to Kumasi. The two back rows of seats were stacked to the ceiling with suitcases, but everyone managed to find a seat. We stopped for a chicken lunch about half way on our journey and some handed out a few tracts, Tim had a good conversation with some football (soccer) players. After lunch and back on the road I asked if the team would like to sing a few songs and for the next hour or more we were treated to a foretaste of heaven as the Lord had drawn together some beautiful singers to join this mission team. What a delight to my heart to hear these sweet praises to our God, and what a wonderful way for the team to bridge the bonds of fellowship as we spent our first day together.

Once we arrived at the house and everyone got settled we had a nice spaghetti dinner, with many hands helping to prepare and clean up. We had our orientation meeting afterwards to talk about our plans for the coming week and more. Everyone seemed happy and comfortable, with perhaps the exception of the heat, but I heard no complaints, and everyone was busy preparing themselves for their busy week ahead of us. The Lord has graciously brought together an excellent group of believers, are ready eager and able to serve His purposes here in Ghana. Now it is Sunday morning, and the saints will soon be gathered to remember the Lord, and we trust the fellowship and worship will be sweet and fragrant to our Savior. Praise be to His name!

We from Shankill salute you.
Today, the second day of the team’s (mostly) unsupervised adventure was a day of much walking. The team started off the morning with magazine delivery which consisted of much greater distances covered due to the fact that many of the closer neighbourhoods had already been delivered to. Returning back to Glen Maris for lunch, the team prepared for their open-air outreach in Dublin. The team has not undertaken open-air without the Hoods before so there was some understandable uncertainty.
Despite this uncertainty however, the team had a time of prayer and set out. Travelling by DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) armed with sketch-board and paint, tracts and most importantly the Spirit; the team arrived at their location, about 30 yards from the Dublin Spire. After a couple hours of outreach they packed up. Many tracts were handed out, and with the help of a couple Christian girls who were playing the violin near the team’s set-up location, the sketch-board had some on-lookers. A few people asked questions, however most of the people spoken to today were actually other Christians. One lady, Christine, and her three children, Julia, Maria and Peter watched and asked about the sketch-board. Christine asked for prayer for her children, and husband Simon, especially her oldest daughter Anna, who’s away from the Lord. Simon doesn’t believe.
The team talked to a street evangelist named Eric, who comes to Dublin every Saturday to hand out tracts. They also spoke to a lady named Irena who encouraged the open-air work. A few minutes after the team packed up, a choir of Romanian believers started singing and playing in almost the very same spot, they sung a number of hymns and then moved to the other side of the Spire.
After about 20 minutes the team moved on and crossed the street in the direction the choir went. Almost immediately after crossing the street the team noticed a table with a man giving out tracts and were encouraged by the believers there once they discovered the mutual faith.
All-in-all the team spent more time in fellowship with believers than speaking to the unsaved; which was a whole different type of encouragement.
The team ate dinner in Dublin and toured the sights before getting back on the DART back to Shankill. While on the return train, Jen had a chance to evangelize to a woman named Monica who appeared to be homeless. She was given a tract and a CD and shown some passages from the Bible, she seemed receptive. Another woman named Francis, who is 87, spoke for most of the trip with Nathan, after flirting with him. She was a depressed woman, who has lost most of her loved ones and is living in reliance on her religion for hope. She was illiterate and did not own a CD player, so tracts or CD’s were not an option. Nathan simply attempted to point her to Christ for hope and leave her with knowledge that the team would pray for her.
The team finished the night in a time of fellowship, reading aloud the Mass booklet that they will be handing out tomorrow with the local believers at the 50th International Eucharistic Congress.
Please continue to keep the team, local believers and those who are reached in your prayers. The team has only 4 days left of their official trip and fatigue is starting to set in. None the less, we continue to seek the Lord. Keep the Hoods in prayer as well as they travel to Ghana to help and lead the first TnT Team there. May the Lord bless you and keep you,

U2 could see Shankill

Pier at low tide. All the boats are sitting on the ground
Team picture with the lights of Bray in the background

Today was our first day on our own as a team. Tim, Linda, and Jerry left us early this morning to catch their flight to Ghana; they experienced many flight complications so your continued prayers for their travels would be much appreciated. Our job for the day was to letterbox like crazy. It's a little bit of a challenge to get around and plan our routes without a vehicle as Tim took our van back to the rental place with them today. But Nathan and Jen took over planning the routes for us, and the whole team has picked up the slack as we're missing 3 members of our team. Another challenge to our day was the stormy gale that hovered over the entire island of Ireland. We were continuously battered with gale force winds and rain today, but we persevered. We bundled up and managed to stay fairly warm, but we all got very wet. Despite the rain, we didn't let up and ended the day with around 800 magazines delivered. We concluded the day with a delightful dinner at the Carolan's house. The EuroCup, which is essentially like the soccer World Cup, but for European countries, is going on right now so we watched some soccer. After the soccer games, Frank and Grace drove us along the coast past Enya's house and Bono's house.

Prayer requests: We received word from Waterford that a man named Paul is looking for a church to attend, and he received a magazine from us. He's very interested in God, and he talked with Dave Wilson. Pray for Paul. Also pray for the Hoods. They have had a crazy day trying to get to Ghana. After spending almost 12 hours stuck in the Dublin airport, they're trying to catch a red eye tonight from London to Ghana. Pray that they can get there soon and safely. And continue to pray for our ministry work.

Wednesday + Thursday updates

Jen, Kassi, and Bethany singing at Kilkenny Mid-week service

Nathan preaching at Kilkenny Mid-week service

Greetings all,

Wednesday was the team's last day in Waterford area; tomorrow morning they leave for Dublin.
The team met for the last morning with David and Rachel for the conclusion of their study together in the morning before going out and delivering more magazines. In the time the team has been in Waterford, they have distributed almost 7,000 4You magazines.

In the afternoon the team went out and knocked on doors. Most of the people spoken to did not really respond, but Nathan and Bethany had a long chat with a man named Noel, who seemed uninformed but interested in the "Born-again" view of many areas of life. Linda and Kassi spoke to a man who seemed slightly insane, which provided a lot of entertainment to the group. Jen and Rachel were also able to share the Gospel with a group of boys that were playing on their bikes outside.

This evening the team went to Kilkenny to visit a local assembly, after prayer and worship Tim and Nathan spoke to the fellowship. Tim spoke about discipleship, and Nathan told the assembly about the team's activities and goals.

Today (Thursday) was moving day for the team. We left Waterford at 8am in the pouring rain. The rain put a damper on sightseeing. Our first stop was at a lookout point over the Wicklow Mountains. Nathan, Ben, and Jen were the only ones to brave the elements. They all got soaked, but they said the view was worth it. The next stop was Glendelough, but due to the rain we were unable to go and explore. We learned a lot of history of the area though threw a movie. After a nice lunch in a pub, we drove to Shankill and settled into Glen Maris. We enjoyed a final evening with Tim, Linda, and Jerry. They will be leaving around 4am for Ghana.

Keep strong in the Lord,
